Before & after care

The following are steps you can take before acupuncture to improve the treatment experience and outcome. Now, here are six ways to take care of yourself after an acupuncture treatment.

The number one rule is to take it easy. Rest equals healing. Exercising is fine, but consider moderation. In other words, you can take a brisk walk but don't attempt to run a 5K immediately after treatment.

Heating pads are good, whereas an ice pack is probably not. Heat improves circulation, which is a goal of acupuncture, and avoiding any exposure to extreme cold is beneficial.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine. You don’t have to quit immediately and forever, but cutting out your intake just for the first couple of days after your treatment will ensure better recovery following treatment.

Avoid social media and Television, if you can, and try to "unplug" for a short while. The point of acupuncture is to balance your nerves and your body. Watching too much television and browsing social media are unfortunately unneeded distractions.

You are what you eat. Acupuncture removes toxins, so don’t be counterproductive by consuming unhealthy or "junk" food. Stick to a balanced and varied diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and lean proteins.
